BEYOND THE PIPE: IMPLEMENTING CITYWIDE INCLUSIVE SANITATION (CWIS)

This university-level lesson transitions students from traditional, infrastructure-heavy sanitation planning to a service-oriented framework known as Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS). Using the “Manila Principles” and tools like the CLUES framework, students will analyse why conventional “flush-and-forget” systems exclude the urban poor and how a resource-recovery model (the Sanitation Economy) can create sustainable, equitable urban environments.
